Let me tell you now about Egypt.

For many years Egypt was a kingdom, then in 1952 it became a republic. Today the Arab Republic of Egypt has a multi-party democratic regime. The National Democratic Party is the ruling party. The People’s Assembly of Egypt is made up of 444 directly elected members in addition to 10 members appointed by the President - all representing the different political parties.

Our President is Mohamed Hosny Mubarak. He is the fourth President of the Arab Republic of Egypt who was elected in 1981. Since then he was elected twice for office with majority of votes.

Our First Lady is Suzanne Mubarak. One of Mrs. Mubarak’s main concerns is ensuring the prosperity of the Egyptian child - Egypt’s future. She is the chairperson of the Advisory Board to the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, the President of the Egyptian National Women Committee and also the founder and chairperson of the Integrated Care Society.
