The unmasking of king Tut’s face after thousands of years
Hello friends… We all heard about the Egyptian king Tutankhamoun who died when he was 19 year old. Up till now, not only his death remains a mystery to us, but also his face… But what if I told you that now you can see Tutankhamoun’s real face? What would you do? Wouldn’t that be great? To see the old king’s face as if he had just died yesterday when he has been dead for over 3000 years, that would be so cool! But it happened indeed.
The good news is that three teams of French, Egyptian and American scientists built his face by using modern X-ray scans and medical procedures on his skull. The faces that were created by the teams had a striking similarity to king Tut’s mask.
These CT scans (A kind of X-ray) done in this year’s January were the first ever to be done on an Egyptian mummy.
They proposed that the king was a healthy and small in size 19 year old man when he died. They guessed he died from troubles from a broken leg, rather than being murdered, as many people believed.
The X-ray done in 1968 showed that a broken piece of bone was found in his skull. That is why they suspected his murder.
There is not much known about Tutankhamoun’s 10 year rule of Egypt after he followed Akhenaton who had left Egypt’s old gods for monotheism which is the belief in one god, for example: Islam, Christianity and Judaism are monotheistic religions.
Some historians had discussed he was killed for trying to bring back polytheism which is the belief in more than one god.
Others believed he was killed by Ay, the second commander of his army and at the same time the one who succeeded him.
Mr. Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said he was sure that Tutankhamoun who died in 1352 before the birth of Christ was not murdered.
“For the first time, we would make these dead mummies come alive”
Mr. Zahy Hawass
