The United Nile Valley
|
In the Predynastic times, the people of the
Nile Valley had gradually formed themselves into two distinct kingdoms: one in
Upper Egypt, the southern part of the valley; and the other in Lower Egypt, the
northern part of the valley which includes the Nile Delta. The ancient
Egyptians themselves, used to refer to them as the “Two Lands”.
The people of the Two Lands lived mainly in
small villages. They used the Nile for fishing and its rich soil for farming,
growing vegetables and keeping cattle. With the kingdom of Upper Egypt pushing
northward, the people of the Two Lands fought with each other and, eventually,
the conflict led to their unification
