The Great Library



The great library was established by Ptolemy I (305-285 BC) and was the most important centre of learning in ancient times. Unfortunately, the library was burnt down causing great cultural losses.

 Now Bibliotheca Alexandria is located on a magnificent site in the Eastern Harbor, facing the sea on the north, and Alexandria University Complex on its southern side.
