Alexander the Great

Alexander the Great had taken up the fight against the crumbling Persian Empire after the death of his father, Philip II of Macedonia. In 332 B.C., the victorious Macedonian troops marched into Egypt
Under Alexander, Egypt became part of that larger Mediterranean realm of Greek culture called the Hellenistic - Greek - world

He established the city of Alexandria and made it the capital of Egypt under the Greek rule. Before his death, Alexander had appointed his favourite general, Ptolemy Soter, to govern Egypt. Alexander died of illness in Babylon in 323 B.C. at the age of 30. With Alexander’s death, his huge empire began to break up.
